2025 NYC Public School Admissions Guide
Apply to Elementary School
In New York City, children enter Kindergarten in September of the calendar year they turn five. Children are guaranteed a kindergarten seat at a public school. Once your child starts kindergarten, they can remain at the same school until its final elementary grade. If your child was born in 2021 and lives in New York City, they are eligible to attend Kindergarten in Fall 2026.
In New York City, children begin Pre-K in the calendar year they turn four. There is a pre-K seat for every four-year-old in New York City. Children who attend free, full-day, high-quality pre-K learn through play, build skills, and work together. If your child was born in 2022 and lives in New York City, they are eligible to attend Pre-K in Fall 2026.
In New York City, you can apply to 3-K in the calendar year that your child turns three. 3-K brings free, full-day, high-quality education to three-year-old children in New York City— learn more about the benefits of 3-K here. Every school district has 3-K programs, and we make every effort to place students based on seat availability close to their home. If your child was born in 2023 and lives in New York City they are eligible to attend 3-K in Fall 2026.

Below are the application open, close, and offer release dates for each of the admissions processes. These dates are for students who are applying during the 2026-2027 school year for admission to the 2027-2028 school year (admissions is not open yet).

ENROLLING MID-YEAR & GRADES 1 TO 5
Families wishing to enroll their child after the start of the school year should contact Parent Coordinator Araceli Uraga at auraga@schools.nyc.gov
Those who wish to enroll their child in grades 1 through 5 can complete the PS 68 Interest Form online here or you can visit the school and request assistance with completing the online interest form; this is so we have your contact information. We will make offers based on seat availability and first-come, first-serve basis.
